I was trying to think of a name for this dreaded bed. Katrina came to mind. Why, you ask? Because it was a pain, like Hurricane Katrina.
Customer wanted it to match the white on her vanity. I did not paint this but the person that did gave her the color and stain color.
So off to Sherwin Williams to pick up Chopsticks and Minwax stain in Early American. I mixed my paint with
Websters and planned on getting this done and out in a few days. Easy right? WRONG!
When I cleaned the piece off I noticed a pink tint on the rag. I wondered what it was but didn’t worry too much. As soon as I put the first few strokes of paint, a bright pink immediately started showing. UGH! At least it started showing right off. Positive thinking ha! I put on my super cute mask since I am pregnant
Cute, right? Anyway, I painted a coat to Zinsser Coverstain since I was painting it white anyway. Usually this and Shellac work for bleed through. YALL! It. came. back. through. Once I painted it white it came back through. Not through the primer but the paint. SO i sprayed 3 coats of Shellac and painted another coat of paint. Guess what?? it. came. back! So I did 3 more coats of Shellac and tried another coat of paint. It was almost all covered except the headboard and a few other places. I sprayed 3 more coats in the areas it was pink and painted one more coat of Chopsticks. Finally 1 coat of primer, 9 coats of shellac and 5 or 6 coats of paint, it was covered! I was using the sample size in Sherwin Williams so I wonder if I would have used paint and primer in one if that would have made a little difference?
I distressed it on the edges and few high points and put the Minwax stain on one section of a time and wiped off. I use a chip brush to blend if needed. Then I sealed with Minwax Polycrylic and hallelujah it is DONE!
There was absolutely no way to move this outside by myself so I apologize for the pics. My workroom isn’t nice and tidy as some I have seen:)
